Molecular Pathology

Molecular pathology studies the development and progress of diseases at the molecular level. Molecular studies of a cancer specimen can indicate the original source of the cancer, as well as help to predict the way the tumor will respond to different types of chemotherapy, which is helpful to an oncologist planning treatment for a patient. Molecular pathology is useful in studying and screening for genetic diseases, environmental influences on the body, and the growth of normal and abnormal cells.

Note to Physicians: SEP has a state-of-the-art, in-house molecular department. Reflexive or concurrent HPV, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing can be processed directly from the ThinPrep™ vial. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing can also be run off of an Aptima urine tube or an Aptima swab.
